The Plaza Cinema is a four screen cinema in the heart of the historic county town of Dorchester, West Dorset.

It has been serving the town since 10th July 1933, when it opened as a single screen cinema, with a seating capacity of 986. The opening attraction was Fay Wray in “King Kong”, said to be the first screening of this film outside London.

The cinema has recently been renovated with a modern twist on the tradition 'Art-Deco' architechture; of the building.

We are committed to provide facilities that meet the requirements of all our customers.

This includes – but is not limited to – Autism and Sensory Friendly Screenings of popular family films on a regular basis, which are presented without adverts or trailers, with lower volume and the lights are left on low. The whole building is strictly monitored to ensure as little 'sensory overload' as possible.

For more information on our Sensory Screenings, please contact the Box Office or check the events section of our Facebook page.

Subtitled Screenings are held regularly which clearly display dialogue and essential sound cues on screen. For more information, contact the Box Office. All tickets purchased online or over the phone are subject to a booking fee

As the front of the building is stepped, access to the foyer is via the side door on the left hand side of the building, where there is a doorbell to alert our staff and request assistance.

We have baby changing facilities in one of the downstairs toilets.

We welcome the use of The Cinema Exibitors' Association Card (CEA).

This is a national card that can be used to verify that the holder is entitled to an extra ticket, free of charge, for someone to accompany them to the cinema.

Terms and Conditions of use apply which can be seen on their website: CEA Card

If you have any access requirements, please contact the team in advance and we can advise you on the best seating options and to ensure your visit is as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
